At UBM, we are proud of our commitment to having a positive environmental and social impact on both the communities and industries we work within. To do our part to support the local community in our ICMI Contact Center Expo host city of Orlando, we’re proud to partner with The Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) again this year! To support their Day of Action book drive, we’ll be collecting new and gently-used children’s books (K-12), which HFUW will distribute to children in underserved communities in the Orlando area.
The Day of Action Book Drive began because summer reading loss continues to be a huge obstacle facing school-aged children. Over the course of the summer months, students can lose up to 25% of their reading proficiency which then takes up to a month of valuable classroom time to rectify.
Right now, there are thousands of children in the Orlando community who don’t have a single book to call their own. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children have a bedtime story to read with their parents. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children have a way to escape into a world of adventure. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children will have a book to read over the summer to keep working on their reading skills. Together we can make a difference! Are you in?
