Stop Assuming the Door is Closed

You’ll never know if you don’t ask. The answer is always no if you don’t ask. How do you know it won’t work if you don’t try it? These are just a few of the things my brilliant mom used to tell me. Simple phrases and questions like these are where confidence comes from. Repeat these to your co-workers, your staff, your partner, your kids – most importantly – to yourself. Another one from her? It couldn’t hurt to try.

As Alzheimer’s slowly robs my mother of her memories and her life, every once in awhile she comes out with another one. Yesterday it was, “I trained you right.” Yep, you did mom. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
