Will You Help Us Inspire Young Minds?

At UBM, we are proud of our commitment to having a positive environmental and social impact on both the communities and industries we work within.  To do our part to support the local community in our ICMI Contact Center Expo host city of Orlando, we’re proud to partner with The Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) again this year! To support their Day of Action book drive, we’ll be collecting new and gently-used children’s books (K-12), which HFUW will distribute to children in underserved communities in the Orlando area.

HFUW Day of Action Book Drive

The Day of Action Book Drive began because summer reading loss continues to be a huge obstacle facing school-aged children. Over the course of the summer months, students can lose up to 25% of their reading proficiency which then takes up to a month of valuable classroom time to rectify.

Right now, there are thousands of children in the Orlando community who don’t have a single book to call their own. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children have a bedtime story to read with their parents. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children have a way to escape into a world of adventure. Only 1 out of 300 low-income children will have a book to read over the summer to keep working on their reading skills. Together we can make a difference! Are you in?

Ready to Help?

Here are three ways you can donate:

  1. Purchase a book through our Amazon wishlist. (Orders must arrive by May 15th. Just choose “Patty Lucey’s Gift Registry Address” at shipping)
  2. Bring new or used books from home and drop them off at the ICMI booth. (While you're there, you can make a card to encourage summer reading)
  3. Buy a book at our event bookstore and drop it off at the ICMI booth.

Have questions? Want to help us spread the word? Please feel to reach me via email or Twitter.

Thank you in advance for supporting this important cause! I look forward to seeing you soon in Orlando!
