Comcast Job Cuts; Assurant Recruits in S. Miami; J.C. Penney Closes Pa. Facility

Comcast Corp. is cutting more than 200 call center jobs in Northern California, including its Morgan Hill facility by late 2012. The company informed employees on April 3 that residential customer retention calls would transition from its Morgan Hill call center to Minnesota over the next five to seven months. Comcast spokesman Andrew Johnson said that the company will work with the affected employees to find a new job within the company and will provide a severance benefits package and outplacement assistance for those full-time workers who don’t relocated. Comcast currently has 130 open positions throughout California, and plans to add another 65 in the next two to three months. Source.

Assurant Solutions will be adding approximately 50 customer care jobs at south Miami, Fla. facility. The company will be hiring locally for positions including call center customer retention representatives and workforce analysts. Supervisory positions, including a director role, will also be available for experienced call center retention professionals. The positions will support debt protection programs typically marketed through major banks and lending institutions. Recruiting is now underway and the company is taking applications. Openings are posted on Assurant's website.

J.C. Penney Co. will layoff 300 employees when it closes its customer call center in Harmar Township, Pa. on July 1, 2012. Penney spokesman Tim Lyons stated a new pricing strategy was the company’s primary reason for closing the center. Lyons also said that employees who will be losing their jobs likely will not be absorbed into Penney stores or other operations. The company recently laid off 600 workers at its headquarters in Plano, Texas, as a result of the new strategy and the its plans to streamline operations. The other customer-care centers in Columbus, Ohio, and Milwaukee will remain open. Source.
