ING Merger Creates Delaware Jobs; Colorado Center Considers Home Agents

Federal approval of the merger between Capital One and ING Direct could bring hundreds of new jobs to Delaware, reports In September 2011 Capital One announced plans to hire about 500 new employees in the Wilmington, Del. area by 2013 if the merger was approved. Director of Delaware Economic Development Office Alan Levin publicly stated that through the terms of the merger, Capital One will be adding several hundred jobs to the state's workforce as well as securing existing ING and HSBC jobs. The additional jobs are expected to be high paying: averaging $100,000 per year.

Stellar Restaurant Solutions, a Colorado Springs-based center that handles takeout and delivery calls for local restaurants, is weighing the possibility of adding home agents to its workforce. The company - reported to have grown from 50 to 250 employees in the past year - plans to expand its workforce to 500 this year and up to 2,000 by 2013 and is considering using home-based agents to achieve this goal. Stellar will soon begin a pilot program that will allow some of its current call center agents to work primarily from their homes. Stellar is a partnership between the i3 consulting company and Stellar Global Inc., a global call center and outsourcing provider based in Australia.

Affinion Group is adding 150 operation and call center jobs to its two locations in Williamson County, Conn. The jobs will be spread out between offices at Duke Drive and Corporate Centre Drive. Affinion currently employs 500 people and is expected to grow to 650 by year's end. The Affinion Group is a worldwide customer service company and privately held by Apollo Management and General Atlantic Partners.
