Pay for Travel Time of Home Agents

Agent compensation/benefits

Apr 21, 2008

I am overseeing a small group of at-home reps for our call center. They are fully trained associates who have chosen to remove themselves from the office and work from home. They are required to come in for mandatory trainings or meetings (about 1-2 times a month) Other centers who have work-at-home associates who are occasionally required to come to the office, do you compensate them for their travel time to and from the office?

Hi there, Most companies I know with home agents do not compensate for travel to and from the office. They see this as part of the job description. Are you paying your in-office agents extra for their travel time? I would take that into consideration when reviewing this. Let me know if you'd like to discuss.lriggs@icmi.com

Some companies have them use mapquest or google maps and compensate them for the milage...etc, as part of working from home is that you do not incure those extra expenses. However if that is included in their pay structure then no. I would evaluate it based on pay structure and compensation.

We have a group of about 30 at-home agents and rarely need them to come into the office for training (they can voluntarily come in for in-house celebrations like Cust Care Week). We've invested in e-learning systems or will use webinars for training sessions whenever possible. When they are required to come to the office, they're not compensated due to the substantial savings they experience working from home. Hope that helps!
